Meet Sam and Her Dogs Bert & Ernie the Labradoodles

Sam is a top dog trainer, having recently won the award for the best dog training provider in Leicestershire!

A dog lover (some say dog mad), our qualified, dog trainer and dog behaviour expert and the founder of Rovers Return.

Having experienced first hand the trials and tribulations of dog ownership with a reactive dog named Bert, Sam works daily to manage his behaviour and improve his quality of life.

Sam is there for you, you’re not alone, and we’re here to help.

Sam is a qualified behaviourist and expert dog trainer. She has a passion for helping dogs and

their owners live happier, more fulfilling lives.

Sam founded Rover's Return Dog Training & Behaviour to help people who are struggling with the

same issues she once overcame as a new dog owner.

At Rover's Return, we specialise in dog reactivity and behaviour modification.

We understand that reactivity is often misinterpreted as aggressive behaviour, when in fact,

it may be a sign of fear or anxiety.

Sam is dedicated to studying the development of these behaviours and bite prevention

techniques. We want to share this knowledge with you and help transform your dog’s

behaviour.

Sam's qualifications include expertise in behaviour and pet dog training. She has achieved the honour of becoming a full member of

APDT UK, and a registered animal trainer with ABTC. You can rest assured that she has

been assessed by leading industry professionals.

We offer group classes, specialising in fear and anxious behaviours and scent work for pet

dogs.

Why I Became a Dog Trainer

My journey into dog training began with two very special dogs: Bert and Ernie.

They came into my life as 12-week-old puppies, but their story started tragically, with the loss of their mother.

This early trauma may have contributed to their future behaviour, and it certainly became the catalyst for my own transformation.

When they arrived, I thought my years of having dogs meant I knew what I was doing. How wrong I was. I didn’t take them to training classes. Instead, I turned to a book by a renowned professional trainer.

I quickly put a plan into action when Ernie started hurtling across the park to meet other dogs. The book advised a punishment-based approach, and I followed it, completely unaware of the long-term effects.

The results were devastating. The more I tried to stop him with punishment, the more he feared me. He stopped wanting to come back to me. I was distraught, and I vowed that day to learn a better way—a way built on trust, not fear.

Bert, my other boy, showed his struggles differently. He was anxious and became reactive toward other dogs on walks from a young age.

I wanted to help him, so I began studying.

I understand the stress, the embarrassment, and the feeling of being judged by strangers who don’t see the sweet dog you know and love. I just wanted to tell everyone that he wasn't aggressive; he was scared.

Because of the challenges I faced with Ernie and Bert, I decided to study dog behaviour in-depth. My experience, from the failure of punishment to the success of positive methods, has given me a deep empathy for what you're going through.

After more than a decade of dedicated study and hands-on experience, I'm now a professional trainer committed to helping you. I can help you achieve your goals with effective, compassionate, and force-free training.
